You will need a cage,which is located away from any draughts,and never leave your pet in direct sunlight.Use shavings that are free from chemicals,and dust as small animals have sensitive lungs.You should clean away soiled shavings every two days,and clean the whole cage once a week.Use a water bottle attached to the cage,changing the water daily. Small animals usually eat the same type of food but have different nutritional needs. Small pets hoard their food so be sure to check if their is any uneaten food hidden away as this could rot,and not be healthy for your small pet.You must give your pet time to adjust to its new surroundings.You should never pick up gerbils or mice by there tails,or a rabbit by its ears,show your child how to handle there small pet.Check your pet for fleas and ticks.You can bath your pet rabbits and guinea pigs in a baby shampoo(mild),remembering to dry them as quickly as possible,to prevent your small pet from getting a chill. |
